Kumtagh Desert
Image by Lanzen The Kumtagh Desert ("kum tag" means "sand mountain" in Uighur) is a section of the Taklamakan Desert which lies east-southeast of the Desert of Lop. With the Altyn-Tagh to the south, its eastern edige just beyond the Gansu border, it is over 2500 square kms. In the North-East corner lies the Jade Gate (or Yumen Pass); the wastern end of the Great Wall and the symbolic gate between Central Asia and China.
